Is War Inevitable?

It’s interesting… If you were to ask anyone that specific questions, more often than not, their answers go something like this, “Yes… It is inevitable but it doesn’t HAVE to happen, but it is going to happen but I don’t wish for it to happen…”. We KNOW for a fact that MOST of population on earth would prefer not to live in a world where wars exist, ideally, everyone would hope for “world peace”… ALTHOUGH, all those answers lack FAITH, it is almost as if you had asked me whether I believe I can be an astronaut, and I reply with, “Yes… I know it can be done BUT it probably won’t, even though I want to believe that I can…”, with that mentally, I’ve already lost the battle, do you see how, as a society, we’ve already lost to leaders of the country?  This idea of “inevitability” have been engraved into our minds, therefore, WE’ve made it OKAY in our society… WE’ve allowed it to happen… All in all, we lack faith.

Following is a video of our typical answer to, “Is War Inevitable?”

Hafez Al-assad was responsible for killing nearly 40,000 people, one of the most brutal killings of Arabs.  He was intimidated by the Muslims within his own country because he belong to a minority group, the Alawite Muslim sector, so in order for him to stay in power, he managed to gain support from other religious minorities within the country and his goal was to diminish a powerful group, which lead to the Hama Massacre in which his brother Rifaat al-Assad personally oversaw.

His actions came from an individual level of realism, he lead the country with his own personal interest above all others, he killed his own people solely because he was afraid to be overthrown.  Realists are often egoistic, selfish and power-seeking, and that’s just about describes Hafez al-Assad.

The following video is Syria’s revolution in a nutshell basically…

World Peace?

I have to shamefully admit that I had a very naive mentality walking into my first IR class, the mentality of world perpetual peace CAN and WILL exist one day, although after watching Barack Obama’s Nobel Peace lecture, ” but as head of state, sworn to protect and defend my nation, I cannot be guided by their (Martin Luther King Jr. and Ghandi) examples alone, I face the world as it is, and cannot stand idle in the face of threats to the American people, to make no mistake, evil does exist in the world…”, I now believe that war and violence is a part of humanity, unfortunately.  The following video really puts a new spin on my new found realism moment, even liberals realize that there is a 1% chance that war will reoccur, but of course after “exhausting absolutely every other opportunity…”.
